Ankho Series

Kuntal Patel - Prints from Copper-plated Etching

These copper plate etchings are a selection from the Ankho series. Published at Kappa Ceneni ve Calis press in San Diego, CA the series is now accompanied by colorful large scale painted replications, available to view here. Ankho is a Hindi word for "eyes", or the way we perceive. The series illustrates a narrative on a choice, between two trees in an ocean, that needs to be made by a figure. The trees represent our daily decisions while the figure represents our mind's ability to contemplate or reason. The mental environment we sometimes witness can create difficulty in cognitive approach, as we often feel isolated, challenged, stressed, confused, or lost.

The Artist:

Kuntal PatelOriginally from Fallbrook, CA, Kuntal Patel is an artist currently based out of Nashville, TN. The artwork made my Kuntal conveys visual metaphors through natural bodies with complicated personalities and illustrates familiar narratives. Symbolism, through free will and dispassion, is the greatest component of his artwork. His art is influenced by ancient Hindu teachings of yoga, meditation, and mindfulness. When Kuntal is not making art, he walks around, gets together with friends, and works at a restaurant. Drop a line or message and he'd love to get back, hang out, or chat!
